Cardinal Walk Event Accessibility 2025
The 2025 Cardinal Walk is open to all Stanford employees.
If you have any accessibility concerns, contact BeWell at BeWell@stanford.edu. The Campus Access Guide and the searchable campus map are helpful resources for planning your trip.
Staff and volunteers in white BeWell or plain red vests will assist attendees throughout the event.
Timekeeping for non-exempt staff
If you are a non-exempt employee and you want to participate in the Cardinal Walk event during your regular work hours, please consult your supervisor. If operational needs allow it, you should be permitted time to attend.
The event starts at 11:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. Please record the time you spend at the event as your unpaid lunch break. If you need more time to complete the Walk beyond your regular lunch break, you may record any additional time as paid work time on your time card.
Activities
- Warm-up activity: At 11:45 a.m., Stanford Recreation and Wellness will lead an optional interactive warm-up session, with seated participation options.
- Remote participation: Employees in your area may have organized a walk, and they have been directed to choose a fully accessible route with disabled parking options. Use the #remote-employees Slack channel to connect with other employees near you or organize your own.
- Food and snacks: BeWell will offer complimentary fresh fruit at the beginning of the event and refreshing Kona Ice and water at the end of the event.
Water stations:
Water will be available in the Rugby Stadium and along the route. To reduce waste, we encourage everyone to bring a reusable water bottle.
Cardinal Walk route
The entire route of the walk is flat and step-free. Although the route is not paved the entire way, any unpaved sections are well-worn, firm paths. The surfaces along the way should not impede your movement along the route.
Here’s a narrative description of the route. You can also see a map of the route.
- The walk will begin near the northwest corner of the Steuber Rugby Stadium.
- Upon exiting the stadium, participants will make a right turn to head northeast on Churchill Mall toward El Camino Real.
- Just past Master’s Grove, participants should turn left, off of Churchill Mall, onto the path that follows El Camino Real, heading roughly north.
- Where the path along El Camino Real reaches Galvez Street, just beyond Stanford Stadium, turn left and follow the path around the Stadium along Galvez Street to Nelson Road.
- Cross Nelson Road, then follow the path along the south side of Nelson Road.
- Just past the Varsity parking lot, the path becomes Nelson Mall.
- Continue on Nelson Mall, along Klein Field, to Churchill Mall.
- Turn left on Churchill Mall, then take the first right onto the path at Smith Family Stadium.
- At the south point of Smith Family Stadium, take a left and proceed straight a short distance to the finish line at the Rugby Stadium.
- Volunteers will be posted throughout the route to keep you on track.
