SESSION DESCRIPTION
The first 2,000 days – gestation through age 5 years – is a critical period for development of childhood obesity and subsequent chronic disease. Racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in obesity are apparent in the first years of life. This session will focus on emerging research on the role systems-level interventions to reduce social and behavioral risk factors in for childhood obesity.
EDUCATION GOALS
- Identify factors during gestation and infancy that influence child growth.
- Understand current literature the role of social risk factors in childhood obesity.
- Describe emerging social care models and how they may show promise to reduce racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in childhood obesity.
