Apart but Together:
A Cardinal Walk recap
While we couldn’t physically be together on May 28, 2020, we celebrated the annual Cardinal Walk event virtually this year — and showed community solidarity as we face new challenges.
Apart, but together, nearly 1,000 who registered walked alone or joined hundreds of family members or colleagues from Stanford. Many wore their Stanford apparel or gear, and masks if they were with friends outside of their family unit.
The photos
Hundreds took photos while walking and posted them to our Tacboard livestream* — and here’s our 2020 Virtual Cardinal Walk photo album.
The words
A picture may tell a thousand words, but words also tell a lot. Here are some thoughts expressed by your Stanford colleagues about what the event meant to them:
“Thank you for hosting the Cardinal Walk remotely. It felt nice to be part of something bigger even if I was out walking alone.” 🙂
“Thanks for continuing this tradition through SIP. We WILL get through this!”
“This is great, tearful actually.”
“Thank you for organizing! it actually does feel like we’re all together!”
“Thank you SO much for hosting a virtual Cardinal Walk! This is one of my favorite events and I’ve coordinated a large group at the Law School for the last two years when we were on campus. Everyone was bummed we couldn’t do this in person, but having it online still gave us a great outlet to get out and walk and feel like we were together!”
“Today was fun… My family enjoyed it!”
“Thanks so much for putting this on, virtually. It has become a tradition with my colleague over the last 2 years. We are both thrilled to participate again.”
“It was great seeing other Cardinal Walkers in their neighborhoods.”
“Thank you for organizing the virtual walk and keeping the spirits high. Much needed now.”
“Warm up was perfect and I had fun walking in my backyard.”
“Thank you for the Virtual Cardinal Walk. This made me still feel connected.”
“What a great idea to do this virtually. I have missed seeing friends on campus.”
“Thank you so much for not cancelling the event. This event is so meaningful – apart but together! (my tears are about to drop every time when I read this slogan…. So true and humane in such a challenging time ^_^) Thank you!!”
“I thoroughly enjoyed the walk!!! So great to see everyone’s pictures!”
“Thanks for helping us keep the tradition during these crazy times!”
“Thank you, BeWell, for the walk yesterday — that was so much fun to see my Stanford colleagues smiling and walking in the great outdoors. It was so great to connect virtually. What a boost, I miss seeing everyone in person. The warm up was fun too. Great Job!”
