Create Your Own Strength Workout at Home and Work

Strength training is an important component to overall physical health. Research shows that resistance training over a lifespan leads to higher physical performance and ability as we age, while a lack of resistance training can lead to low function, loss of independence, falls, and disability. Yet many people struggle to incorporate a strength training regimen into their activity plan.

In this webinar, you will learn why incorporating strength training is so important for your overall health and how to put together a basic and balanced full-body strength training program at home. This class will include demos of simple, effective exercises you can use as building blocks and real-case scenarios to help you create a customized home strength workout that works for you.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and join in the action. Please bring a pair of free weights, filled water bottles, canned foods, or something with weight. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

This class will be recorded and a temporary link to the recording will be shared with all registered participants, which will be active for one week. Stanford University benefits-eligible employees must attend the live session in order to receive BeWell incentive points.

Instructor: Jerrie Thurman, MA, is a senior wellness program manager and certified wellness coach for Stanford BeWell. She has degrees in exercise physiology and education and 35 years of experience as a certified fitness instructor.
